About

Gareth Woodward; Artistic Director, Choreographer, Dancer, Educator, Mentor and DJ.

Born and raised in Nottingham, Gareth was first introduced to dance through Hip Hop. As an aspiring young DJ it was a natural progression to explore other elements of the culture.

Gareth started taking street dance classes at a local studio before travelling further afield to extend his knowledge in London, Los Angeles and later New York.

Gareth began his career as an established dancer in the commercial industry working with artists such as Mariah Carey, Cheryl, Take That and Coldplay.

Gareth has also performed on TV shows, The X Factor, The Voice, and The Royal Variety Performance, has worked with brands including Adidas, Nokia, T-Mobile, Cartoon Network, Cadburys, Morrisons, and featured in hit Bollywood movies.

These experiences allowed Gareth to work with renowned choreographers, Fatima Robinson, Tony Testa, and Kenrick Sandy to name a few. Always looking to expand his reach Gareth didn’t just absorb the steps but took in valuable knowledge, helping him develop not only as a performer but as a choreographer and creative artist.

In recent years, Gareth has began to establish himself as a choreographer, exploring both Hip Hop theatre and commercial avenues, sharing his vision through a variety of artistic endeavours.

Gareth’s work, Singularity (2018) and Ode To Dilla (2019) was presented at Breakin’ Convention’s UK Tour in Nottingham. This led to Gareth working on the 2020/21 tour as local representative for the city.

Gareth is the Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Unite The Scene, a leading arts organisation based in Nottingham, and champion of developing young peoples choreography through his award-winning programme Xzibit Young Creatives.

With a passion to educate, Gareth has built up over 10 years teaching experience. From working in further and higher education at dance conservatoires providing vocational training, to teaching in schools and delivering on community youth dance projects, Gareth is always able to get the best out of people.

Revisiting his passion for DJ-ing Gareth has also become a recognised name on the UK battle circuit as well as supporting music artists such as Big Daddy Kane.
